Team(s) Interested: Washington Capitals, KHL-One of the most talked about players in trade rumors this season has been Washington Capitals Russian winger Alexander Semin. Semin, who is coming off a bad season, has been rumored to be on the way out of the nation’s capital for a while, but nothing has ever materialized in terms of a trade. Despite being one of the most talented players in the league, some believe Semin will be gone by the time the Capitals start their 2012-2013 season. Playing with Alex Ovechkin and Niklas Backstrom does help your trade value, on top of his natural skill. With some good physical wingers like Jarome Iginla and Bobby Ryan—players Hunter would love to have on his roster—rumored to be on the trade block, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a trade happen sooner rather than later. Slava Malamud of the Washington Post said “The KHL will view signing Semin as a huge PR coup, will pull out all the stops. He’ll get at least $7 mil/yr in Russia.” Considering he is Russian, and that the NHL may not be going to the Olympics in 2014, it may be possible he heads over to the KHL in the near future. That wouldn’t be good for the game or Washington, though, as he is a great help for the team. He currently makes $6.7M this year, and it’s the last on his contract.
