The Game of the Year: Devils v. Rangers

By -

It seems like every time the Devils start to get things going, the condensed schedule derails their winning streak. No matter. The Devils have had several days off while their opponents, the New York Rangers, went to a shootout last night. The Devils should have fresh legs for tonight and there’s nothing like a home game against your division, nay; arched rivals. The Devils, or should I say David Clarkson, got the better of the Rangers in these team’s first and only encounter this season.

Who will come out on top tonight? Devils 4 – Rangers 1.

Devil’s Keys to Success:

-Utilize the depth at forward. I’m going to say this outright: if the Devils 3rd line of Carter-Zajac-Bernier doesn’t account for 2 Devils goals tonight, specifically talking to you Bernier, I will be shocked. They’re going up against Taylor Pyatt- Brian Boyle- J.T. Miller. Uh, ok. Good luck with that NY. If the Devils 3rd line can get its dump and chase, strong 2 man forecheck going, they will cycle on this Rangers 3rd line all night.

-Capitalize on 2nd chances. The Devils have been victims in back to back games to not capitalizing on glorious chances that could either gain momentum or just flat out ice the game. The power play is partially to blame here. That needs to get going tonight.

Notes

-With a win tonight over the Rangers, the Devils will improve their chances at making the playoffs by 8.9%. That would put them at 58.7% to make the playoffs compared to 37.6% if they lose. They need to win this game tonight.
