To say I am calm right now is saying that hurricanes and tornadoes are lolli pops.  This game was messed up in the fact that the referees decided to make this game theres and decide who would win.  The refs allowed Jonathan Toews to skate back to the bench after a scrum with David Backes in which Daniel Carcillo was the third man in.  Not only did Backes and Toews drop gloves, but Carcillo pinned Backes down while Toews continued to sucker punch Backes.  I don’t blame Toews, I mean Backes did own Toews all night and has owned Toews the past couple of years.  But these NHL refs are seemingly getting worse every year.  Multiple calls were blown tonight right in front of there very own eyes and let things go, until Kane or Toews were involved in getting roughed up.

On other notes the defensive core had a terrible game, they looked lost and could not clear the zone all night long.  This game was a flashback to earlier this year when Payne was coaching with all of the turnovers.  Those turnovers cost the Blues dearly tonight, with Maid Marian Hossa capitalizing on it with his first goal(s) in 6 games.  The special teams also let the Blues down all night going 0-5 on the PP and giving up to PP goals to the Hawks who added a shorthanded goal as well.  <iframe width=”420″ height=”315″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/0HM5yzA_crc” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>

In a bit of good news though, David Perron played tonight in his first game in over a year.  He got things started off in the right direction for the Blues by roofing a shot past Ray Emery on his first shot of the game.  Perron actually played great, exceeded my expectations by setting up plays, and backchecking.  <iframe width=”420″ height=”315″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/cF7MUpDws9c” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>

The other goal of the night from the Blues came from Chris Stewart.  The goal speaks for itself.  What is concerning for me is a power forward afraid to throw his body around and finish checks.  It was pretty evident from watching that these Shanabans are affecting the pace and the physicality of the game. <iframe width=”420″ height=”315″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/jyyTX3j8WUE” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>

My keys to the game on my previous post were ignored apparently and only Stewart came through.  The lines were a bit awkward tonight as well.  Petro and Russell really confused me.  When you start messing with defensive chemistry things get hairy, and they did.

Blues are off until Tuesday when they take on the Dead things I mean the Red Wings at home.  Until then if you are of age drink some beer and cool down.  Remember the Cubs have not won a world series since 1908 and the Cardinals won this year.  If you are not a Cardinals fan just remember its one game and we shut out the Hawks the game before.
