The St. Louis Blues have dealt defensemen Kris Russell to the Calgary Flames in exchange for a fifth round pick in the 2014 NHL entry draft.

Russell has played on a pair with Roman Polak the last two seasons and has played well. He was knocked out of the line up when the Blues acquired Jordan Leopold last year. Russell will get a good chance to play in Calgary and could see top four minutes with the Flames next season.

The Blues needed to move a defensemen after signing Ian Cole and Jordan Leopold and Kris Russell was the odd man out. He’ll get a chance in Calgary and the Blues save a little cash and wont have the defensive question marks going into next season.
