Today Philadelphia ran the risk of putting Blair Betts on waivers. This risk had no reward as Montreal snapped him up. In this case, I guess you could say, another man’s trash is another man’s treasure. (I don’t mean to compare Betts to trash, but otherwise the analogy works). The Habs will use Betts as their 4th line centre and demote Andreas Engqvist to the Bulldogs. This is the only logical solution as Engqvist is still on a 2-way contract. Betts had 12 points in 75 games with the Flyers last year. Betts is a great face off guy and extremely good in defencive situations, he should see a lot of time on the PK (not of the Subban variety)

With the addition, came sacrifice. As I said yesterday, Lars Eller had been away from practice. It was confirmed today that he had suffered an injury and will start the season on Injured Reserve. The player I predicted to fill the hole, (before I knew about Betts) F Andreas Engqvist, and F Aaron Palushaj were both sent to Hamilton.

With the moves, the Canadiens now have the necessary 22 man roster, and are ready for opening day!

As AllHabs.net reports, The roster is as follows:

Centermen
Blair Betts
David Desharnais
Scott Gomez
Tomas Plekanec

Wingers
Michael Cammalleri
Erik Cole
Mathieu Darche
Brian Gionta
Andrei Kostitsyn
Travis Moen
Max Pacioretty

Defensemen
Chris Campoli
Raphael Diaz
Alexei Yemelin
Hal Gill
Josh Gorges
Jaroslav Spacek
P.K. Subban
Yannick Weber
Jeff Woywitka

Goaltenders
Peter Budaj
Carey Price

Injured reserve: Andrei Markov, Lars Eller, Ryan White

I’m not sure what they’re going to do forwards wise, as they only have 11. Don’t be surprised in you see Weber spend some time up front or if you see Woywitka and Diaz as healthy scratches. Only 1 day left! Pre & post game article right here at thehockeyhouse.net!
