A week after being released by KHL squad HC Lev Praha, Erik Christensen has signed with Swedish team HV71.
Christensen was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the third round (69th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. During the next ten years, he bounced around teh Atlanta Thrashers, Anaheim Ducks, New York Rangers and Minnesota Wild before finally deciding upon Lev Praha last season. Christensen recorded 23 points in 50 games with Lev, but only 2 in twelve games this year and was released last week.
Christiensen proved that he had great skill, however, like former NHL forward Robbie Schremp, he just wasn’t well rounded enough to succeed in the National Hockey League. I could see him coming back to the NHL on a 2-way deal in an AHL veteran/call up role up four or five years from now, but I think we won’t ever see him back as an NHL regular.
