After only nine games played this year, HV71 have released defenseman Aaron Gagnon from his contract.
Gagnon was drafted in the eighth round, 240th overall by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. On February 2, 2007, after not signing with the Coyotes, Gagnon signed a 3-year contract with the Dallas Stars. During his three year tenure with the club, Gagnon got limited ice time with the Stars, recording two points during the 2010-2011 campaign.
This past season, Gagnon was named the AHL Player of the Month for March after he recorded a point in all 11 of the IceCaps’ games. He ended up with nine goals and nine assists over that span. After getting called up, he would go on to record his first NHL goal, followed up by two others before the season concluded.
UPDATE: Gagnon has since signed with Finnish team Lukko Rauma.
