Hey guys. I know it’s been awhile since my last post and I apologize. The end of the first quarter was coming to an end so I had a ton of studying to do. Anyway, I’ve been in absolute disgust with the Flyers this last week. They are just playing terrible and losing to teams that should be an easy win. So in the post, I will point out some of the things that are good for the Flyers, and also some of the things that aren’t good, which will probably be more.
Scott Hartnell- Never thought I’d be able to say this, but Scott Hartnell is playing exceptionally well. Him and Jagr are quickly finding chemistry and whenever one them scores, almost all of the time the other has the assist. Yes, he still falls a ridiculous amount of times, but I don’t care about that as long as he is contributing offensively.
Matt Read- Playing in his first NHL season, Matt Read has become a very good player. He speed gives him the ability to go wide around the D and drive to the net to create a scoring chance. I am also noticing that Peter Laviolette is giving his time on the power play unit.
Claude Giroux- Is definitely playing the role he was expected to play when Richards and Carter were traded. He is able to put the puck in the net and I’m sure he is also developing some leadership skills from the captains. Thats good because one day I’m sure he’ll be the guy wearing the C.
Ilya Bryzgalov- You know something is wrong when someone admits that they have no confidence in themselves. He has been absolute terrible: letting in weak goals, lack of communication with the D, etc. Soon, you will hear a lot of people saying “THIS IS THE GUY WE RUINED OUT WHOLE TEAM FOR”.
Chris Pronger’s Injury- Pronger’s absence in the lineup is certainly not helping the cause. He is a key asset on the point, especially on the PP and PK squads. His leadership qualities are also needed to keep this young Flyers team on track. We are all certainly wishing him a speedy recovery because his health comes before hockey.
James van Riemsdyk- Another man who was supposed to help fill in for Richards and Carter, but really isn’t producing. He did have a goal in the last games vs. the Jets, but I still don’t think he is really settled in. I’d say give him some time, but I really don’t think this will continue that much longer.
Those are just a few of the goods and the bads, but I could probably go on about it forever. The Flyers look to turn it around and get their acts together tonight as they take on the Carolina Hurricanes at home. Brian Boucher, who was a member of the 2010-2011 Philadelphia Flyers Goaltending Carousel, will be in net tonight for the Canes. Across the ice in the other net, will be Ilya Bryzgalov, who will try to regain confidence in himself and get the Flyers the win.
