The Philadelphia Flyers have acquired defenseman Andrew MacDonald from the New York Islanders in a trade for two draft picks and center Matt Mangene.
MacDonald has four goals and 24 points in 63 games this season while earning lots of ice time on a poor defensive Islanders team. It will be interesting to see if he pairs with former defense partner Mark Streit, the more offensive of the two defensemen. A pending UFA in July, MacDonald will likely make more than his current $575,000 salary he earns now.
Mangene has three goals and six points in 51 games this season for Adirondack of the American Hockey League and will continue to play a depth role with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
