BREAKING NEWS: The New Jersey Devils have re-signed their franchise point leader Patrik Elias to a
multi-year extension 3 year, $16.5 million dollar contract (AAV of $5.5 million). I had him pegged for 2-3 years at 5-5.5 million (prediction at bottom of article). Terms have yet to be fully disclosed.
For quotes from Elias and further contract details, check out Tom Gulitti’s blog. This was a key signing for a Devils team that’s expected to lose David Clarkson to free agency in the coming days.
Elias is typically one of the Devils most consistent players even at the age of 37. His two-way acumen, hockey IQ, and incredible passing abilities has made Elias a force in the National Hockey League for many years.
Here are Elias’ career stats: Edit: Terms now disclosed. From earlier: If I had to venture a guess on the terms of Elias’ contract, I’d predict the contract is 2-3 years in length and for roughly $5-5.5 million AAV (per year). His last contract was signed in 2006 for 7 years and an AAV of $6.o million per year.
