Team(s) Rumored: Nashville Predators, Carolina Hurricanes- With the season ending injury for Chris Pronger, Philadelphia may start looking for outside help. The Flyers currently have 9 defenseman on their roster, but with Pronger, Erik Gustafsson and Andreas Lilja on the IR, the Flyers have been using some call ups to fill the void. CSNPhilly.com’s John Boruk recently noted Matt Carle, who’s eligible for unrestricted free agency next summer, is in line for a 40 percent pay raise over the $3.473 million he’s earning this season, which would put his salary at $4.8 million a year. As Lyle Richardson mentioned on one of his recent The Hockey News Rumor articles, Re-signing Carle would make it difficult to re-sign UFA right winger Jaromir Jagr and restricted free agent right winger Jakub Voracek. Jagr has been a big plus for the team this year, and could likely be brought back on a cheap salary next year. Voracek has also had a strong season so far, but would be asking for a lot more then Jagr, so he could be headed out if needed. Some people have suggested that the Flyers could trade Claude Giroux for Shea Weber or Ryan Suter on Nashville, but David Polie said he’s not trading Weber or Suter until the trade deadline at the earliest, and if they’re in the playoffs at that time, he’s not moving them after talking with Elliote Friedman. Other names suggested are Joni Piktanen, Bryan Allen and Jaroslav Spacek on Carolina, who could all find new homes by the trade deadline.
