It was recently announced by the Predators organization that Captain Shea Weber is out with a concussion. We were already aware that he was injured, for not long after he was scratched for Monday’s game versus Detroit the Preds announced that he had an “upper body injury”. It is only very recently that we’ve learned that this “upper body injury” was in fact a concussion.

This injury appears to stem from the hard hit Weber took near the end of Friday’s game in Dallas. He appeared to be fine after the play and spoke with reporters after the game but on Monday he left early from the morning skate and, like I mentioned previously, ended up being scratched.

This is a huge blow for Nashville. Weber is, at the moment, their top scorer with 29 points and 8 goals. This had him on pace for 66 points and 18 goals, although this is now bound to change. He was really carrying the team both offensively and defensively. The only good thing that comes of this would be the fact that Ryan Ellis has been called up to fill in the empty defensive position, hopefully he can pick up some of the missing offensive ability of Weber. At the moment, there is no timetable for when Weber might return but hopefully, for Nashville’s sake, it’ll be soon.
