Within the last hour, it has been announced officially that D-man Josh Gorges has signed on to be a Montreal Canadien for 6 more years. As far as money goes, the team has yet to announce anything but people are saying $3.9M/year is what Gorges will see.
Gorges, now 27, will be in Montreal through until at least the end of the 2017-2018 season, that is unless he gets traded.
Most were worried when the club only offered him a 1-year extension in the off season, afraid that of the possibility of fan-favourite Gorges being shipped away. To Habs’ fans delight the 1-year turned out to just be a precaution, security if Gorges didn’t turn out as the same player after his major knee surgery in the off-season. With a league leading 101 blocked shots and a team leading +6 rating, it’s safe to say he has come back as the player we were accustomed to.
Gorges is also known to be a tremendous leader figure in the locker room, so maybe somewhere down the road in this extension, we could see Gorges swap that “A” on his jersey for a “C”.
