The New York Islanders have traded forward Nino Niederreiter to the Minnesota Wild in return for Cal Clutterbuck and the 70th pick in 2013 draft (third round).
Niederreiter’s relationship appeared to be shaky with the Islanders during the past season. He wasn’t invited to the team’s training camp and he wasn’t part of the Bridgeport contingent that was recalled when the big club made the playoffs to practice as the team’s Black Aces squad. He instead reported to Sweden for play for Switzerland at the 2013 World Hockey Championships, finishing second to hosts in yellow in blue.
The 25 year old Clutterbuck was drafted in the third-round in 2006. To date, he has 62 goals and 110 points in 346 games for the Wild and is coming off of a less than desirable campaign that saw him record only four goals and six assists in 42 games.
