The British U20 team is just another step closer to promotion after their third straight victory at the Division IIA World Juniors, a 5-2 decision over Romania on Wednesday.

The first goal of the game took 14 minutes to occur. With GB on the power-play, Samuel Duggan scored on a tight angle shot, somehow beating Attila Adorjan below the blocker. The lead would be doubled before the end of the first, as Oliver Betteridge’s wrist shot from the right face-off dot found it’s way in with two minutes remaining in the period. Romania did end any chance of a British shut-out almost instantly, however, as Istvan Gereb picked up a rebound to cut the lead in half with just over a minute to go in the first.

Previously assisting on the first GB goal, Lewis Hook got a goal of his own eight minutes into the second period. It was a great game for Hook, who finished with three points after adding an assist later in the game. Mircea Constantin got Romania’s second goal of the game just a few minutes after Hook’s goal, making it 3-2 GB with half the game still to go.

Despite trailing by just one, Romania’s chance at victory was sealed shut thanks to Jordan Cownie. Crownie scored two goals ten minutes apart near the end of the contest, giving his team the 5-2 victory. The victory was a meaningful one for the team, as a win on Friday will clinch the gold medal and for the Brits and earn promotion to Division IB in the process.
