The 2015 IIHF World Hockey Championships are barely a thought to most people at this point, but not for two countries in particular.
The Slovakian Ice Hockey Federation and the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation have announced their bids to host the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.
As an independent country, Slovakia has only hosted one World Championship when the world’s top teams made their way out to Bratislava in 2011. It’s expected that Bratislava and Kosice are the intended locations for 2019, but an official report will be sent to the IIHF in January 2015.
For Switzerland, the country has already hosted the tournament in 1935, 1939, 1953, 1961, 1971, 1990, 1998 and most recently in 2009. No venues have been announced yet, but the 7th ranked country is expected to announce their intentions in October.
The official host will be announced during the 2015 World Championships next May in Prague, Czech Republic.
