The IIHF have announced that Russia’s Vadim Shipachyov will be suspended for three games at the World Championships.
Shipachyov was suspended after cross checking Finland’s Pekka Jormakka in the head on Sunday, a hit that would result in a concussion for the Finnish player. Shipachyov will miss the game against the Americans today, Kazakhstan on Wedneday and Latvia on Saturday.
Kazakhstan’s Fyodor Polishuk was also issued a penalty, this time just a one game ban. Polishuk was ejected from the game against Belarus after high sticking former NHL forward Sergei Kostitsyn in the face. Kostitsyn would return to the game, and would even go ahead to score two goals earlier today against Switzerland.
