With the recent conflicts taking place in the country, just three teams, HC Kremenchug, Generals Kyiv and Vityaz Kharkov, are confirmed to play in the new Ukrainian Hockey League.

Originally believed to be a ten team league, political unrest look to have put many teams out of commission for the time being. The most notable name missing is HC Donbass, whose KHL parent club had to sit out a season after their arena was ransacked back in May among one of the reasons.

Last year, following the death of the Professional Hockey League (PHL) in Ukraine, a different league run by the Ukrainian Hockey Federation finished with mixed results. In the six team league, that finished with just five by the end of the season, Kompanion-Naftogaz Kyiv came out on top thanks to a championship series victory over Bilyỹ Bars Bila Tserkva.
