The IIHF have handed Belarus defenseman Nikolai Stasenko a two-game suspension following a dangerous hit from behind on German forward Yazin Ehliz.
With just one second left in Belarus’ 5-2 victory over Germany on Saturday, Stasenko approached Ehliz from behind before leaving his feet to hit Ehliz into the boards.
Latvian forward Zemgus Girgensons was also given a one game suspension. With the score 4-1 in favour of the Russians on Saturday, Girgensons delivered a spear to former Winnipeg Jets Alexander Burmistrov forward and would earn an automatic suspension on the play.
