The Netherlands wasted no time earning promotion back to Division IB for 2017, winning all five of their games at the 2016 Division IIA tournament in Spain over the past week.

The team was expected to have no issues heading into the event, but like in any international tournament, you can’t back down. The team finished with four wins in regulation and one in overtime, a 3-2 thriller over Spain on Sunday. Their biggest victory was a 9-0 victory over China, who failed to win a single game before getting relegated to Divsion IIB for 2017.

The Netherlands had six players in the top ten in scoring, with defenseman Erik Tummers leading the way with one goal and nine points in just five games. Kevin Bruijsten, Raphael Joly and Alan van Bentem all made an impact as well, round out the top five with six points each.

The hosts from Spain finished with the silver medal, winning three games and getting an overtime win and loss. Spanish goalie Ander Alcaine finished as the tournament’s top goalie, finishing with a .934 SVS% and 1.70 GAA.
