Alexander Orekhov, captain of Russian Under-18 team Metallurg Novokuznetsk, died on Tuesday after being left in a coma following a game in January.

Orekhov was hit in the neck with a puck during a game on January 15th against Sibir Novosibirsk, a junior team with ties to the KHL club of the same name.

According to Sport-42 in Russia after the incident, “he suffered a ruptured carotid, a broken vertebra and a cardiac arrest. CPR was performed immediately, and he was hospitalized to the ICU of Novosibirsk City Hospital #1.”

Orekhov would receive treatment following the incident, but he would end up in a coma shortly after.
