The Portland Pirates have signed Kyle Hagel to an AHL deal for the 2013-14 season. 

Undrafted, the St. Louis Blues signed Hagel as a free-agent to a one-year contract in 2011. After only 7 games with the Blues AHL affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen due to injuries, Hagel ended up signing a one-year contract to remain in the AHL with the Hamilton Bulldogs for the 2012–13 season. In a fourth line role, Hagel scored 2 goals and 6 points whilst recording 172 penalty minutes in 67 contests with the club.

Hagel recorded a career high 245 penalty minutes during the 2010-11 season with the Rockford IceHogs during the .

Starting out as a big Habs fan, he started to gravitate towards the more obscure levels of hockey, such as the low level tournaments in Asia, strange club matches between teams most people in North America can’t pronounce, and even some 3am contests between Bulgaria and New Zealand.
