SKA St. Petersburg was busy at the pumps today, re-signing forward Viktor Tikhonov to a two year contract.
The Phoenix Coyotes selected Tikhonov in the first round (28th overall) during the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He came over from Russia for the 2008-2009 season where he suited up for the ‘Yotes in 61 games. That would be the only time that he would see NHL ice. Tikhonov registered 8 goals, 8 assists, 20PIM and a -3 rating throughout that season. From then on, the now 24-year old mainly played in the AHL with a stint in the KHL during the 2009-2010 season.
Tikhonov had 30 points, 18PIM and a +11 rating in 42 games in his first season with St. Petersburg during the 2011-2012 campaign. He also put up 57 points during the 2012-2013 campaign and also became the top Gagarin Cup goal scorer and was picked for the tournament’s All-Star team during the playoffs.
