Weiss, 30, has played the last 10 seasons with the Florida Panthers, recording 145 goals, 249 assists, 394 points in 654 games. He adds good playmaking ability to the Wings roster next season. You could very well see him playing with Johan Franzan and Pavel Datsyuk next year while Henrik Zetterberg anchors the top line with newly signed Daniel Alfredsson.

Weiss was in negotiations with both the Wings and the St. Louis Blues. His decision to sign with Detroit could force the Blues into signing Mikhail Grabovski, which could be a better fit for the Blues anyway.

Weiss to Detroit for five years, 4.9M per season.
