Byron Bitz Suspended Two Games; Shea Weber Fined

Byron Bitz Got Two Games For His Hit On Kyle Clifford Wednesday Night.

Vancouver Canucks winger Byron Bitz has been suspended two games by the NHL for his hit on L.A. Kings forward Kyle Clifford in the round 1 opening game against the Kings. Bitz had a disciplinary hearing with the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety on Thursday afternoon, which decided that two games for the fourth liner would be enough.

Bitz received a boarding major and game misconduct at 12:12 of the second period of the game as a result of the hit. While attempting to gain puck control, Clifford had his head down and was in a vulnerable position when Bitz caught him and forced his head into the glass.

The L.A. times reported today that Clifford would miss game two on Friday.

In other news, Nashville Predators defenceman Shea Weber avoided a suspension but was handed a $2,500 US (the max allowed under the CBA) fine Thursday for slamming Henrik Zetterberg’s head into the glass at the end of Game 1 of a Western Conference quarter-final playoff series against Detroit on Wednesday.

What do you think of the fine/suspension?
