The St Louis Blues tonight won their 3rd straight against the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1.  With goals coming from Kris Russell, and David Backes, the Blues improved to 7-1-2 under Hitch.  That record in the first 10 games is the best start for a coach in the history of the Blues.

The Blues stacked up tonight better then the Blue Jackets and did not make a whole lot of mistakes tonight.  Although proving that mistakes can kill you in the NHL Barrett Jackman did not catch the puck in the neutral zone leading to a Derek Dorsett breakaway and the Jackets only goal of the night.

Brian Elliott improved to 10-1, and still kept is league leading GAA, and save percentage.  This guy still continues to impress and should recieve the start for the next game.  The big issue is Jaro Halak has not started in a couple games now and Hitch likes to keep both rust free and sharp.

The Blues also ended their 0-22 power play slump with a gorgeous goal from the captain David Backes, who now has 6 goals in his last 7 games.  two games in a row now he has had a special teams goal, a shorty coming against the Flames, and a power play goal tonight.  The power play still continues to struggle though as it was the only goal in 5 chances tonight.

3 keys to game were

  • Pietrangelo, Cole and the Backes line were assigned to the Nash Carter line and shut them down
  • Elliott stood on his head again tonight, if he is not in the All Star game this year he is getting robbed.
  • David Backes, led this team again tonight, he is the captain this team has been looking for since MacInnis retired.

In some other news Cade Fairchild who has been called up earlier last week has been reassigned back to Peoria.

The ownership situation still has not been finalized and according to JP Rutherford the legendary and Hall of Famer, “The Golden” Brett Hull is joining up with the Stillman group for part ownership.
