The Nashville Predators opened up the 2011-2012 campaign in a fashion nobody (except Preds’ fans, of course) expected. They took two games, in back-to-back nights, on the road, from two tough teams, the Columbus Blue Jackets and the St. Louis Blues. To add to things, those two wins were the home openers for the respective teams they battled. Not only did Nashville take both games in regulation, they scored a total of 7 goals, actually showed up on the power play, and set the pace in both games played.
I don’t think that any Fan of the Fang was too concerned about the heart this team would have, but I can speak for myself in saying that I didn’t think they would be able to play the game that was played with the players showing up that did.
- I think it’s safe to say he’s a Vezina candidate for the season. He picked up right where he left off in versus the Vancouver Canucks. He is playing like a man on a mission, and, I do not think he is at the top of his game. Let’s just hope he stays healthy.
- What else can you say about this kid?? He has been all over the place, peppering shots, and putting up some points. In his first 2 games, he has 4 points (2g/2a), and has shown no signs of slowing down. Keep it up and maybe we’ll see another first nominee for an award.
- Finally, the million dollar man is playing like the million dollar man. Why? I think Barry Trotz has (finally) found the right line combo for him. The USA line of Smith/Legwand/Wilson has been fantastic. Legwand is leading the young guys, playing off of their sheer speed and strength. David Legwand is one of the purest skaters in the NHL, and he is getting the chance to show it off. A career-high (tying) 4 point game has him in the team lead with 5 points (2g/3a) in the season.
