Team(s) Interested: Toronto Maple Leafs- There has been a lot of chatter that Derick Brassard could be on the move from the Blue Jackets. With James Wisniewski suspended and not in the lineup until the end of the month, the Blue Jackets defense lacks offensive power. They lost talented Jan Hejda in the offseason during contract negotiations and were not able to add any offensive-minded defensemen aside from Wisniewski. Toronto has 2 d-men that could possibly head to the Blue Jackets, Cody Franson and Carl Gunnarson. Franson is playing his first game in a Leafs uniform against the Calgary Flames tonight, and Gunnarson has been in many trade rumors since the summer. With the amount of depth the team has, they can afford to trade a D or 2 to add a top 9 forward, and this is where Brassard comes in. But this is where the deal will most likely not happen: Brassard is another Centerman. So Brassard or another center would have to move to the wing, or else the deal will not happen. Multiple other reports have suggested that a few Eastern Conference teams are interested in Brassard, including the Senators.
