There are three games to watch tonight. Habs/Leafs start another year of their storied rivalry at 7pm, which you can see on CBC and RDS. At the same time, The Boston Bruins look to defend the Stanley Cup by starting their season against the Philadelphia Flyers on Versus, and at 10PM the Canucks take on the Sid-less Penguins om CBC. The Calgary Flames Assigned defenseman Jordan Henry to Abbotsford (AHL).

The Carolina Hurricanes Assigned forward Riley Nash to Charlotte (AHL)

The Colorado Avalanche Placed forwards Brandon Yip and Mark Olver and defenseman Kyle Cumiskey on injured reserve; reassigned defenseman Stefan Elliott to Lake Erie (AHL).

The Columbus Blue Jackets Assigned forward Alexandre Giroux to Springfield (AHL).

The Dallas Stars Placed defenseman Adam Pardy on injured reserve.

The Florida Panthers Assigned forward Steven Reinprecht and defenseman Mike Kostka to San Antonio (AHL).

The LA Kings Reassigned defenseman Slava Voynov to Manchester (AHL); placed defenseman Jake Muzzin on injured reserve; placed forward Colin Fraser on the non-roster list.

The Minnesota Wild Assigned goaltender Matt Hackett to Houston (AHL).

The Montreal Canadiens Assigned forwards Ian Schultz, Aaron Palushaj, Michael Blunden and Andreas Engqvist to Hamilton (AHL); claimed forward Blair Betts off waivers from the Philadelphia Flyers.

The New Jersey Devils Agreed to terms with forward Petr Sykora; Named Zach Parise Captain, Ilya Kovalchuk, Patrick Elias Assistant captains.

The New York Islanders Assigned center Trevor Frischmon and defenseman Dylan Reese to Bridgeport (AHL); returned left wing Kirill Kabanov to Blainville- Boisbriand (QMJHL).

The New York Rangers Assigned forward Sean Avery to Connecticut (AHL); recalled defenseman Tim Erixon from Connecticut; placed defenseman Marc Staal on injured reserve.

The Philadelphia Flyers Placed forwards Ian Laperriere and Andrew Rowe and defenseman Brandon Manning on injured reserve; assigned defenseman Oskars Bartulis to Adirondack (AHL).

The Phoenix Coyotes Signed forward Paul Bissonnette to a two-year contract extension.

The San Jose Sharks Reassigned forward Cam MacIntyre and defenseman Mike Moore to Worcester (AHL).

The Toronto Maple Leafs Placed forward Tim Connolly on injured reserve, sent Joey Crabb to Marlies (AHL).

The Vancouver Canucks Assigned right wing Victor Oreskovich and defenseman Ryan Parent to Chicago (AHL).

The Winnipeg Jets Signed David Aebischer to an AHL contract, released Troy Bodie from his PTO.

Steven took a different route towards his hockey interests. Starting out as a big Habs fan, he started to gravitate towards the more obscure levels of hockey, such as the low level tournaments in Asia, strange club matches between teams most people in North America can’t pronounce, and even some 3am contests between Bulgaria and New Zealand. Aside from his love for strange hockey events, Steven occasionally acts as a mediocre ball hockey goalie following a failed attempt at making it to the NHL as a fourth line house league grinder. Beyond hockey, Steven is an avid racing fan and loves to chat about NASCAR, F1, Indycar, you name it. Oh, and don’t get him started on music. That is, unless you want the whole history of metal and a guitar lesson. Currently, Steven is a credentialed media member with the Mississauga Steelheads of the OHL, as well as with the Oakville Blades of the OJHL.
