After two appearances with the Calgary Flames this season as a fill in goaltender, Danny Taylor has agreed to a deal with Farjestad of the Swedish Elite League.
Will Joey MacDonald signed for next season with Reto Berra and Karri Ramo also challenging for the starting role, there was little room for Taylor to fit in. The future is still up in the air for Miikka Kiprusoff, and Barry Brust, and Joni Ortio is also under contract while Edmonton Oil Kings standout Laurent Brossoit will likely go pro either in the AHL or ECHL. Leland Irving will likely test the UFA market this summer.
Taylor had a 1-1 record for the Flames this season, with a 3.00 goals-against average and an .912 save percentage. He earned a 4-2 victory against the Vancouver Canucks in early March. He was among the AHL’s goaltending leaders midway through the season with a second-best GAA of 1.77 and was fourth in save percentage at .930 when an injury to Kiprusoff led the Flames to sign Taylor to an NHL contract on February 6 and recall him to Calgary.
Elsewhere, Taylor has played for four American Hockey League squads, five ECHL teams and also spent one season in Germany.
