Shawn Hunwick, who played with the Columbus Blue Jackets last season, has signed a deal with the Las Vegas Wranglers, but will start the season at the Providence Bruins training camp.
This past season, Hunwick was signed to an amateur try-out on March 28th, 2012 just days after his college career ended. The Columbus Blue Jackets gave him this opportunity when Steve Mason went down to injury in a practice. The very next day he was given a one-year professional contract due to the other injuries sustained at the goalie position.
Hunwick made his NHL debut on April 7th in a game against the Islanders. He had to replace Steve Mason in the last few minutes in a 7-3 victory.
Hunwick was recently released from his contract with EC Red Bull Salzburg after playing three European Trophy games and only one in its entirety. It was also believed that he was to sign with Bolzano in Italy, however the deal fell through.
