If you watched Sportscentre this morning you’d have heard Canadian forward, Devente Smith-Pelly will miss the remainder of the World Junior Championship with a broken left foot.

The injury was suffered when Smith-Pelly sacrificed his body to block a Finish defender’s point shot in the second period. The shot was taken off the foot and Smith-Pelly immediately anguished his way to the bench. He tried to get back in on the next shift, but the pain was too much and took him out of the game, and  now the tournament.

This injury is a crushing blow to Canada. They lost a player who can easily change the momentum with a single play. Smith-Pelly lead the Canadian team in hits in 2 of the 3 pre-tournament games.

Canadian fans now just have to hope their depth players soldier through the loss and play well in Smith-Pelly’s absence.

The Canadian squad, minus Smith-Pelly, can be seen back in action on Wednesday when they play the Czechs at 7:30 ET, (5:30 MT)
